A 460 × 205mm mouth takes bigger pieces of concrete, brick and stone. The funnel is shaped for loading from a mini excavator.

  • Instant crush size, 3–55mm

Adjust the jaw in seconds, from fine material for bedding to coarse crush for hardcore and sub-base.

  • Kubota D722 diesel

A 19HP engine that’s fuel-efficient, low-emission and reliable, with electric start, anti-stall and auto reverse.

  • 12+ hours on a tank

The 33 litre fuel tank keeps it crushing all day without stopping to refuel.

  • 970mm wide, 1,450kg

Narrow enough for tight sites and light enough to move on a trailer, which keeps transport costs down.

  • All-terrain tracks

Tracks give stable, low-impact movement over rough ground, so you can put the crusher where the waste is.

Indicative costs in the Shropshire area. Skip and aggregate costs may vary. Cost does not account for savings in labour and time. One fuel tank is included in the crusher hire, roughly one day's use. Default figures are based on £350 for an 8yd skip and £25 per tonne for replacement aggregate, with an 8 tonne skip payload and around 30 tonnes crushed per day.

Before you hire

Get the best from your hire

“The quality of the product produced depends on how well the waste material to be crushed is prepared.”

Neil Carter, founder
  1. Suitable access

Check the route onto site. The CR450 is 970mm wide on tracks, so measure the narrowest gate or gap.

  2. Clean rubble only

Concrete, brick, block, paving and tarmac. Keep soil, wood, plastic and metal out of the pile.

  3. Maximum 18 inches square

Break bigger slabs down to a maximum of 18 inches (450mm) square before they go in the hopper.

  4. Know how you’ll load it

A mini excavator is ideal, and the greedy board comes fitted. Smaller jobs can be loaded by hand.

  5. Roughly how much

It crushes 30–40 tonnes in an average day, so a rough idea of your pile sets the right hire length.

Questions

What to know before you hire

Can’t see your question? Call us or add it to your booking request.

The CR450 control panel
How much does concrete crusher hire cost?

The Dragon Equipment CR450 is £250 + VAT a day (£300 inc. VAT), £400 + VAT for a weekend or any 2 days, and £650 + VAT for a working week, Monday to Friday. Delivery and collection are charged by distance and quoted when you book. It’s self-hire, so there’s no operator day rate on top.

How much can the CR450 crush in a day?

In an average day it will crush 30–40 tonnes, depending on the material and how well it’s prepared. On a day hire that works out at roughly £6–£8 a tonne + VAT in hire cost, before delivery. For comparison, clean concrete sent to landfill carries £8.65 a tonne in landfill tax alone.

Do I need a permit to crush concrete on my site?

Often, yes. Crushing concrete with a machine is regulated, and on a self-hire you count as the operator. Check with your local council before you start: they decide whether you need a mobile plant permit or can register a T7 exemption. Reusing the crushed material on site is normally covered by a U1 exemption.

Is crushing on site cheaper than a skip?

Usually, because you avoid paying twice. Clean concrete sent to landfill carries £8.65 a tonne in landfill tax in 2026/27, or £130.75 if the load is mixed, on top of skip or haulage costs. Replacement quarried stone then carries £2.16 a tonne aggregates levy before the supplier’s price. Crushed concrete reused on site avoids both.

Do you provide an operator?

No. JTC is self-hire only: you operate the crusher yourself, which keeps labour costs down and lets you crush on your own schedule.

Can private individuals hire the crusher?

Yes. We hire to commercial organisations and private individuals, for construction, farming, landscaping and domestic projects.

What materials can the CR450 crush?

Concrete, brick, block, paving slabs, paviours, tarmac, stone and general hard rubble. Take out timber, metal, plastics and soil before crushing for the cleanest, most reusable aggregate.

What size is the crushed material?

The jaw adjusts instantly from 3mm to 55mm, so you can make anything from fine material to coarse hardcore.

Will it fit on my site?

The CR450 is only 970mm wide and runs on all-terrain tracks, so it can get onto tight and awkward sites. It weighs 1,450kg and stands 1,880mm high in transport mode.

What do I need to load it?

A mini excavator is ideal: the funnel is designed for one, and the greedy board comes fitted, raising the feed height from 1,396mm to 1,780mm. Smaller jobs can be loaded by hand. Either way, break the rubble down to a maximum of 18 inches square first.

Do you deliver to site?

Yes. We’re based at Ford, near Shrewsbury, and deliver the crusher to sites throughout Shropshire, Mid Wales and the West Midlands. Include your site postcode in your booking request.

Our home patch

Concrete crusher hire in Shrewsbury, from six miles down the road

Our yard is at Ford, about six miles west of the town centre on the A458. Getting the crusher to most Shrewsbury addresses is a drive of around a quarter of an hour.

The 1950s estates

Harlescott, Monkmoor, Meole Brace and Springfield were built fast after the war, some of them in concrete systems such as Wimpey No-Fines and Wates precast panels. Sixty-odd years on, those concrete drives, paths and garage bases are ready to come up, and they crush into good hardcore for the replacements.

Terraces and tight access

In Castlefields, Belle Vue and Coton Hill about a third of homes are terraced, and much of it sits in conservation areas. At 970mm wide on tracks, the CR450 goes through side passages and yard gates to crush rear-yard concrete and old outbuildings where they stand.

Growth to the south and west

The adopted plan allocates Shrewsbury South (around 950 homes off Oteley Road) and Shrewsbury West (around 750 homes at Bicton Heath, on our side of town). Groundworkers on those plots can crush their arisings into haul roads and sub-base instead of trucking them out.

Farms all around

Shropshire has more farm holdings than any other county or unitary area in England. Old yard slabs, collapsed buildings and cattle-standing concrete on farms around Pontesbury, Minsterley and Baschurch all make good crushing jobs.

Planned around the Severn

When the river rises, the council closes riverside roads such as Smithfield Road and Longden Coleham and puts up the Frankwell barriers. For jobs in Frankwell, Coleham or Coton Hill over winter, we plan delivery around the flood warnings.

Delivered and collected

We deliver the CR450 from Ford, talk you through it on site and collect it when you’re done. Shrewsbury jobs are usually a short run, whether that’s a day, a weekend or a week.

See it in action

Watch the CR450 at work

See the crusher loaded, running and discharging on a real site. Then JTC founder Neil Carter walks you round the controls, jaw adjustment and conveyor.

Read the transcript of Neil’s walk-round

Behind me is the Dragon Equipment CR450 Compact Diesel Crusher. I'm going to walk you through the setup process so you get the optimum production from your machine. The main controls are situated at the rear of the machine. To start the machine, place the ignition key in the barrel and turn it clockwise. Hold the key until all the lights on the ignition panel light up, then press the engine management light and hold. To manoeuvre your machine to your job site, you firstly need to press the track button. Once you have activated the track button, use the joysticks left and right to manoeuvre the machine forwards or backwards. To lower the conveyor, pull the catch located at the front of the machine. Once the machine is located on level ground, you are ready to commence the crushing procedure. To start the crusher, put the machine into crushing mode by pressing the button marked CRU on the control panel. Once you have activated crushing mode, press the conveyor belt button. When you are ready to start crushing, press the green start crush button. Once the crusher is up and running, it's capable of crushing bricks, blocks, paviours, tarmac, concrete and paving slabs. The CR450 is also equipped with a reverse jaw action. If something becomes lodged in the crusher box, hold your finger on the reverse jaw button. This will free up any material. There are two emergency stop buttons located on the machine, one at the front and one at the back. To alter the size of the product you wish to produce, you can either make it larger by pressing the black button or smaller by pressing the white button. Once you finish crushing, press the red button, turn off the conveyor, press the same button that you used to start the crusher and finally turn the ignition key back to its start position. To refuel the machine, the filler cap is located underneath the control panel at the back of the machine.
